Cake Deposit by M-Pesa: How Bakery Booking Works

Updated October 2026

Most Kenyan custom bakers ask for a cake deposit by M-Pesa before they start your order. At Norie's Cake Atelier, a 50% deposit to 0711 536 504 confirms your date, and the balance is due before pickup or delivery. Here is why deposits exist, how to pay safely and what happens if your plans change.

Why bakers ask for a deposit

A custom cake is made for one customer only. The baker buys ingredients, blocks out baking and decorating time and turns down other orders for that slot. If a customer disappears, the cake cannot be sold to anyone else. The deposit protects that time and those ingredients, and it confirms that you are serious about the booking.

How our M-Pesa deposit works

  1. Send your order on WhatsApp, or build it on the order page, which shows the total and the 50% deposit.
  2. We confirm the design, date and final total.
  3. Pay 50% by M-Pesa to 0711 536 504.
  4. Send the M-Pesa confirmation message on WhatsApp.
  5. Pay the balance before pickup or delivery.

Example deposits

Order Total 50% deposit
1kg vanilla + topper KES 2,700 KES 1,350
1.5kg red velvet + edible print KES 4,600 KES 2,300
2kg Snickers + drip KES 7,000 KES 3,500

Paying safely

  • Only pay to the number shown on our website and menu: 0711 536 504.
  • Check the name on the M-Pesa confirmation before you send.
  • Be careful of anyone who messages you from a different number claiming to be us and asking for payment elsewhere.
  • Keep your M-Pesa message until the cake is delivered.

Refunds and date changes

Deposits are non-refundable, because work and ingredients are committed from the moment you book. Date changes are free with 72 hours' notice, so if your event moves, tell us early and we will move your cake.

When is the balance due?

Before pickup at Machakos Celebration Centre or before the cake leaves for delivery. Delivery fees (KES 300 to 500 in Machakos town, by distance elsewhere) are added to the balance.

What if you need to cancel?

If the event is cancelled altogether, tell us as soon as you can. The deposit is not refunded, but early notice lets us talk through moving the order to a later date instead.

Rush orders

Orders needed in under 48 hours carry a 10 to 15% rush charge, and the deposit is 50% of the new total.

Pastries to go with the cake

For bigger groups or a dessert table, our pastry menu stretches a cake further: classic cupcakes KES 150 each (box of 6 for KES 850, 12 for KES 1,650), signature cupcakes KES 200, classic fudge brownies KES 150, loaded brownies KES 200, stuffed cookies KES 180, cinnamon rolls KES 250, glazed doughnuts KES 100, and dessert cups such as tiramisu, Biscoff cheesecake, tres leches and banana pudding at KES 300 each (box of 4 for KES 1,100). Mini cupcakes are KES 100 each with a minimum of 12.

Allergies and dietary needs

Our cakes and pastries contain gluten, eggs and dairy, and may contain nuts. Please tell us about any allergy when you order. We would rather tell you honestly that something is not suitable than risk a guest's health.

Keeping the cake in good shape

  • Carry the box flat on the floor of the car or on a level seat, never on a lap or by the sides.
  • Keep it out of direct sun; buttercream softens quickly on a hot dashboard.
  • If the event is many hours away, refrigerate the cake and take it out about 30 minutes before serving.
  • Name one person to receive the cake and check it on arrival.
