Cake Prices in Kenya 2026: What a 1kg Cake Costs

Updated October 2026

The 1kg cake price in Kenya for a freshly baked custom cake usually depends on three things: the flavour range, the decoration, and how much notice you give. At Norie's Cake Atelier in Machakos, a 1kg cake starts at KES 2,500 for a Classic flavour, KES 2,800 for a Signature flavour and KES 3,000 to 3,500 for Premium flavours. This guide shows the full price list, what pushes a price up, and how to get the most cake for your budget.

What changes the price of a 1kg cake?

1. The flavour range

Flavours with simple sponges, like vanilla, lemon or coconut, sit in the Classic range. Flavours with richer ingredients, such as cream cheese, chocolate ganache, caramel or Biscoff, cost more because the ingredients cost more. In Kenya, imported butter, chocolate and cream cheese have the biggest effect on what a baker charges.

2. Decoration and add-ons

A clean buttercream finish is included. Extras are priced separately so you only pay for what you want:

Add-on Price
Extra filling layer, cream cheese filling or frosting, fresh fruit between layers +KES 300 each
Chocolate or caramel drip +KES 300
Sprinkles, meringue or macarons +KES 300 to 600
Fresh flowers +KES 400 to 800
Gold leaf or dust +KES 300
Fresh berry topping +KES 400
Message topper / acrylic topper +KES 200 / +KES 250
Edible image print +KES 500
Fondant figures +KES 500 to 1,500

3. Notice and timing

Order at least 3 days ahead and you pay the menu price. Orders needed in under 48 hours carry a 10 to 15% rush charge, because they push other work aside. Custom designs need 7 days, and wedding or multi-tier cakes need 3 to 4 weeks.

4. Pickup or delivery

Picking up at Machakos Celebration Centre costs nothing extra. Delivery inside Machakos town is KES 300 to 500, and further destinations such as Athi River, Syokimau, Kitengela or Nairobi are priced by distance. See our cake delivery to Nairobi guide for how longer trips work.

How many people does a 1kg cake serve?

A 1kg cake typically serves around 8 to 12 people at a party, depending on how generously it is cut. A 1.5kg cake suits roughly 12 to 18 people, and 2kg roughly 16 to 24. For bigger events, our cake sizes and servings guide explains how to work out kilos per guest.

Worked examples: real totals

  • Simple birthday: 1kg vanilla (KES 2,500) + message topper (KES 200) = KES 2,700. Deposit: KES 1,350.
  • Office celebration: 1.5kg red velvet (KES 4,100) + edible image print with the company logo (KES 500) = KES 4,600. Deposit: KES 2,300.
  • Something special: 2kg Snickers (KES 6,700) + chocolate drip (KES 300) + fresh flowers (from KES 400) = from KES 7,400. Deposit: from KES 3,700.

Delivery, if needed, is added on top.

Half kg vs 1kg: which should you buy?

Our standard sizes start at 1kg because a 1kg cake is the smallest size that holds a proper layered design and lettering well. If you are celebrating with only two or three people, a box of cupcakes (6 classic cupcakes for KES 850) or a box of brownies can be a better buy than a small cake.

Is a custom cake worth it compared with a supermarket cake?

Supermarket cakes are convenient for last-minute plans. A custom cake is worth it when you want a chosen flavour, a personal message, a specific colour scheme or a design that matches a theme. It is also baked for your date rather than taken from a display fridge. If price is the main concern, the Classic range is the best value: a full 1kg custom cake for KES 2,500.
